BENEFITS

All net proceeds will benefit the following families:

  • The Family of Late Sgt. Todd Heufelder (North Fayette Police Department): Sgt. Heufelder served North Fayette proudly for 30 years as a Sergeant and founder of their K-9 program. A devoted husband to Julie and father to Troy and Jolina, Todd left behind a legacy of selfless service, mentorship, and unconditional love.

  • The Family of Officer Greg Renko (Allegheny County Police Department): An Army combat medic veteran and ACPD Mounted Unit officer, Greg discovered an aggressive mass (paraganglioma cancer) during routine testing while stepping up to donate a kidney to a friend. Even while navigating severe medical treatments, his focus remains on selflessly supporting others.

  • Officer Joshua Covert & Family (Union Township Police Department): Officer Covert has served New Castle for over 15 years. He and his wife, Kira, are facing overwhelming medical and financial strain after their 7-year-old daughter, Angelica, was recently diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive pediatric brain tumor.

SCHEDULE

7:30 am - Teams start to arrive and get ready

7:50 am - Playing of the National Anthem

7:55 am - Quick words followed by a moment of silence

8:15 am - First pitch on both fields

Games will be 60 minutes in length, or 7-innings, whichever comes first. There will be 10 minutes after each game to complete the last batter and/or changeover.

PARKING

Parking is allowed throughout Pine Park. Parking will also be allowed in the front of the

Township building across from the park. AVOID PARKING on the left side of the building, that is for NRPD duty personnel. Lot closest to the fields will be blocked off for EMS, Fire, Duty police cars and vendors.

OTHER INFO

Please remember that this is a fundraiser, there will be hot dogs, hamburgers, and beverages as well as a beer truck available to purchase. Proceeds will go to the cost of the event, and the rest to the beneficiaries. So please try not to bring your own grill and food, we have made it extremely affordable to try and raise the most money. We will have a POS system to handle cashless transactions, however cash will be accepted as well.

There will also be a 50/50 drawing, and basket raffle during the event.

Please designate a member of your team to keep score. Scorecards can be found HERE. Throughout the game, check-in with the other scorekeeper to ensure accuracy, and confirm with the umpire at the end of the game. Please turn in your scorecards after each game to the registration table located at the NHFRST tent.

GAMEPLAY RULES

A Quick Note Before We Play: Remember everyone, we are here for a good time and to raise money for a great cause. This is not an official league, and we are here for fun. We are not professional softball players (most of us anyway)... with that being said, let's have fun and swing at anything that is near the home plate—getting walked every pitch is BORING! These rules aim to ensure a fun, fair, and safe tournament for all participants.

1. General Rules & Game Duration

  • Format: Gameplay follows general softball slow-pitch rules.

  • Duration: Games will last 7 innings or 60 minutes, whichever comes first.

  • Time Limits: No new inning will start after 50 minutes during round-robin play, and 55 minutes for the tournament bracket.

  • Ties: In case of a tie, extra innings will be played until a winner is determined.

  • Schedule Warning:BE PREPARED TO START 15 MINUTES EARLY in case the preceding game finishes early.

2. Team Composition

  • Roster Size: Each team must have a minimum of 10 players.

  • Starting the Game: Teams must have at least 8 players present to officially start a game.

3. Batting Rules

  • Count: Each batter will step to the plate starting with a 1-1 count.

  • Order: The batting order must alternate between male and female players if there are female players on the roster.

  • Bunting: No bunting is allowed. You must take a full swing.

4. Pitching & Fielding

  • Pitching: Underhand slow-pitch only.

  • Fielding Restriction: Outfielders must remain behind the designated outfield line until the ball is hit.

5. Base Running

  • No Stealing: There is absolutely no leading off or stealing bases. Runners must stay on the bag until contact is made.

  • Sliding & Safety: Sliding is allowed, but runners must make every effort to avoid contact with the fielders. Malicious contact will not be tolerated.

6. Equipment & Bats

  • General Gear: Players must provide their own equipment, with the exception of the game balls (which will be provided by the tournament).

  • Footwear: All players must wear appropriate athletic footwear. Metal cleats are strictly prohibited.

  • Bat Restrictions: Senior softball bats (SSUSA or bats marked 1.21 BPF) are strictly prohibited unless the batter meets the standard senior age requirement. Keep the bats fair and safe for everyone on the field.

7. Conduct & Authority

  • Respect: Any disputes on the field must be addressed respectfully.

  • Umpire Authority:The Umpire has the final say. There will be zero tolerance for arguing calls or disrespecting the umpires, volunteers, or opponents. Keep the charity mission in mind at all times!
